The Red Eye Tetra, also known as Lamp Eye Tetra, is an eye-catching species with bright red eyes and a metallic silver body. It also has a black band on its tail that adds to the unique look of this fish.

As the Red Eye Tetra is a hardy breed that’s able to adapt to fluctuations in water parameters, it is a great choice for beginners.

Personality traits
Red Eye Tetras are schooling fishes that prefer to be kept in groups of 6 or more.

While they are generally peaceful, they are also known to have a habit of nipping the fins of other fishes. Thus, long-finned breeds like Betta fishes should be kept separate from these Red Eye Tetras.

Fishes that make ideal tank mates for the Red Eye Tetra include those of similar size such as other species of tetras, barbs and danios.

Additionally, Red Eye Tetras should be kept in larger tanks. An ideal size would be a 20 gallon tank.

You can also use dark substrate and decorate the aquarium with floating plants or dried leaves to imitate their natural habitat.
